being your favorite characters in a Star Wars MMO game. How many times did you imagine yourself being Luke Skywalker and wielding a glowing light saber while you took on a Sith lord or any of the Empire’s troops? Maybe you dreamed of being Han Solo and flying the Millennium Falcon through hyperspace. No matter who you are, the three movies that created the legend and led to countless scores of books is finally being brought to life in a full-scale Star Wars MMO that will rival WarCraft in its scope.

Star Wars MMO Info

The Star Wars MMO: Knights of the old Republic Online starts in a world around three centuries after the story told to us in Knights of the Old Republic games. That also placed it three thousand five hundred years before the movies, so you’re still not going to get to play as Leia or Chewbacca.

Let me tell you about all of the good things this Star Wars MMO has going for it. To start off with, every single player will get their own starship. That means that you will be able to fly from planet to planet and visit fan favorites such as Hoth, Tattooine, and Korriban, which is where the Sith Academy is located. There will be literally more planets to visit than you can count in the Star Wars MMO, so you will likely never run out of places to visit and missions to accomplish.

The cinematics may end up being the best cinematics of any game on the market, ever. They’ll beat the cartoonish graphics from Spore, the sometimes jaw-dropping graphics in World of WarCraft, and even the completely stunning vistas and views from Far Cry. According to a 2010 PC Gamer interview with Jake Neri, a producer for Lucas Arts, the game will “capture the most cinematic moments that we can create. We want players to get in and feel like they’re in the movies. It’s about highly cinematic, controlled combat moments … very heroic, action-packed, exciting, visceral and dangerous encounters that’ll make you pee your pants.” That’s pretty encouraging to hear about this upcoming Star Wars MMO game!

For the roughly 15 million people who have played WarCraft, and the millions more who have played other online MMOs, it comes as no surprise that the Star Wars MMO will include a “good” side and a “bad” side. If you choose to play beware the Dark Side, you’ll be able to play as a Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, a Trooper, or a Smuggler. If you’d rather embrace the more volatile side of the Force, you can choose to be a Sith Warrior, a Sith Inquisitor, a Bounty Hunter, or an Imperial Agent. Each class of character in this Star Wars MMO will also have two specializations (aka specs) that you’ll be able to choose as you level up, giving you even more customization for your character.

This Star Wars MMO will have one of the deepest stories of any fictional property known to man as well. The team behind such blockbusters as Neverwinter Nights, the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect 2 has purposed a team of 12 full-time writers to creating the backstory. They began work in 2006 and continued all the way through final production earlier this year.

The Star Wars MMO went live for pre-orders from EA Games on July 27, 2011. In the six days following the live-date, over two hundred thousand orders were placed for the game, instantly becoming the fastest-selling pre-order ever for EA. This means that it out-pre-sold games such as The Sims 3, Spore, and Madden, and holds the record for one of the most storied companies in the video game industry.

Speaking of the Star Wars MMO pre-order, certain retail outlets are offering a massive pre-order bonus which is still available at the time of this writing. If you order the full kit, you will be able to get a full fold-out map of the Republic, a music CD, extra in-game weapons, weapon customization, and even extra pets that help you to do various tasks as you progress through the game. The entire list of bonuses would take up more room than we can provide in this article, so be sure to check it out for yourself!

Star Wars MMO Conclusion
