I would like to buy a laptop thats good for games (like world of warcraft, rift, sims etc), what does a laptop need to be able to have games on it that wont lag or crash often?

It needs a good processor (i3 i5 or i7) lots of DDr2 or RAM space some hard drive space and a good video card. 100-300 dollar ones. Just get a desktop its cheaper by like 2 times

If you want a good laptop for gaming then it should have good screen resolution , memory space, sound, 3d card, good hardware that supports games. Usually when you buy games , all softwares and amount of free space neede is given.

More RAM, better screen resolution, better sound, more hard drive space, better processor, better graphics card. A new $600 upgrade for the graphics card about every two months.
Pc gaming will empty your wallet within half a year. (that is if you plan on playing new games as they come out)
